What Is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach to mental health treatment that recognizes the connection between physical sensations, emotions, thoughts, and life experiences.

When individuals experience trauma, chronic stress, emotional neglect, or overwhelming life events, the nervous system can become stuck in patterns of survival. These patterns may show up as:

  • Chronic anxiety

  • Panic attacks

  • Hypervigilance

  • Emotional overwhelm

  • Difficulty relaxing

  • Feeling disconnected from your body

  • Persistent tension or stress

Somatic therapy helps clients develop awareness of these patterns and learn how to respond to them in ways that promote healing and regulation.
